Rocco’s by Lakeshore – Our go to Brunch spot!

A few weeks ago, my sister and I were craving brunch so we decided to visit Rocco Restaurant and Bar on Lakeshore.  The last time we were there was last summer (feels like ages ago), we actually had dinner there and went for a stroll near the water with the kids.  Rocco is definitely a hidden gem in the city and a great spot for a date night or a nice lunch with the family.  If you live near Mississauga, Etobicoke, or Lakeshore or don’t want to head directly to the heart of the city, Rocco is a great restaurant to try out.  Bonus – you don’t have to pay “downtown” prices for a decent meal or have to deal with finding parking!

They have a gorgeous outdoor patio and huge windows that are perfect for letting the sunshine in, there is just something about a bright restaurant that is warm and inviting – I can’t deal with dark places no matter how good the food is.  And if themed nights in what meets your fancy they have some pretty cool events that happen throughout the week – which we will most definitely be taking advantage of in the upcoming months.  I can finally enjoy having some wine again as I just finished nursing my little one, ok so in reality…I have been enjoying here and there but now more freely!  I’m in favour of the corkscrew Mondays where you can BYOW (bring your own wine), not to be overshadowed by the all you can eat mussels on Tuesday (totally my sister’s thing).

We were hosted by Mark (very cool and down to earth guy), one of the owners and had the pleasure of meeting the chef behind all the magic as well.  They recently updated their brunch menu and Mark made some recommendations on the trending “customer favourites”.  So much love and attention went into every dish!  Here are some of our favourites and a definite MUST TRY if you are brunching on the weekend!

Fried Chicken and Waffles: Rocco’s house battered crispy chicken served on belgian waffles with maple syrup. If you are into spicy food like us, ask your server about their Spicy Maple Syrup!- $15.00

Breakfast Burger: Eggs (any style) choice of bacon, sausage or peameal, served with cheddar cheese, rosti potato, lettuce, tomato, red onions, chipotle aioli. Choice of Home fries or mixed green salad. The home fries were to die for, we asked for more! Make sure you order them as they melt in your mouth! The Chipotle aioli brought the entire burger together.  We ordered the sausage and I would definitely say this was my favourite item on the menu.- $16

California Benny: Two poached eggs with avocado, bacon & shrimp, toasted english muffin & house made hollandaise served with home fries or mixed green salad.  Holy moly, the hollandaise sauce was mouth watering and light.  I could eat just the sauce and bread all day!  The egg was cooked just right and had the perfect texture.  I would have thought that the Avocado would make this dish a bit heavy but it was perfect. I chose to go with the mixed green salad.- $16.

Blue Crab Cake Benedict: Two poached eggs with Blue Crab Cakes, toasted english muffin & house made hollandaise served with home fries or mixed green salad. Everything about this dish was delicious.  Who would have thought to have crab for breakfast but it paired perfectly with homemade sauce and eggs- $16

Our overall experience was great! Next time, I plan on trying thier Ceasar and Mimosa’s for $5 over brunch!

We are planning on taking the entire family here in the summer so we can grab some good eats and then head over by the water for a stroll. We wished we lived closer, but we don’t mind travelling for good food and then make a day out of it.  Thinking about where to book your next event head over to the friendly, and very accomodating folks at Rocco’s. They will cater to all your needs and make some great recommendations! Speaking of catering, Rocco’s also caters for medium to large scale parties and supplies meals for the Toronto boat tours on the Lakeshore.

Tip: If you are considering going there for brunch, make a reservation online or call them at 416-251-5100 to avoid a wait time.  Over the weekends their line ups are around the corner!
