El Mariachi Tacos and Churros- Streetsville

Who is lucky enough to have 5 besties that have birthdays literally within a few weeks of each other.  That would be us, we always pick one place to celebrate properly.  No husbands, no kids, just us enjoying each other’s company and catching up.  This year, we wanted to pick a location in Mississauga so its central for us all.  We stumbled upon El Mariachi Tacos and Churros in Streetsville.  They got fantastic reviews on Yelp and we all love Mexican, so this was a pretty easy choice.

El Mariachi opened their doors about 9 months ago and from the looks of it, they already have a regular clientele.  One thing you must know about us by now is that we are HUGE on customer love a good background story.  We always want to know about the talented chefs who have a vision and bring their ideas to life through their food (from ideation to execution).

I spoke to the owner on the phone a few times and she was so sweet and accommodating.  The restaurant has 3 sections, the bar, the seating area in the back and the patio. We truly loved their decor, not crazy fancy…but you wouldn’t expect that from an authentic Mexican restaurant anyways.  The warm orange and yellow hues that were used to paint the walls were inviting on this particularly cold winter day. We were seated in the back room right next to the huge windows which gave us ample natural light to capture the beauty of the great food.

Guacamole and Chips – Mashed avocado dip served with fresh tortilla chips.  We always say if the Guac is good, the rest of the food is going to be great.  We have never been wrong, especially this time.

How cute is our Frequent Foodie Flyer sign?  Our very crafty friend wrote it out as our writing is a pretty close second to chicken scratch.  We love personal touches and what we appreciated about our visit to El Mariachi was that the manager/bartender came up with a few signature drinks of his own and we got to sample a few of his masterpieces.  He was very excited for us to try them and vice versa, we all found a drink that was our favourite. How tasty and refreshing does the Orange Creamsicle look?

Baja Fish Tacos- Fresh battered cod served in flour tortillas topped with chipotle mayo and coleslaw. This was definitely a crowd favourite, the fish just melted in your mouth!

Burrito – Chicken Tinga: Flour tortilla rolled with rice, beans, guacamole, Pico de Gallo, sour cream and your choice of protein.  This dish was bursting with flavour and was enough for two to share.

20171203_145003Chicken Soft Taco – Shredded chicken in a tomato and chipotle sauce, topped with grilled onions and cilantro.  This was a nice and light dish, tapas style perfect for sharing.

Screenshot_20171211-113245-01Molten Cheese with Mushrooms – Oaxaca cheese melted with your choice of chorizo or mushrooms served with 4 flour tortillas and side salsa. We scooped this deliciousness up with the fresh nacho chips as well as the flour tortillas.

Drinks – Red Wine Sangria, Orange Creamsicle, Cotton Candy, Margarita Mojito, and Ceasar! These drinks were so delicious, we all found the one that was made for us.  For the longest time we just stared at how pretty the drinks were.

Screenshot_20171211-113326-01Churros (Done 4 Ways) – Cinnamon sugar dusted churro, served with Dulce de Leche. Chocolate Oreo Churro served with Oreo filling.  Strawberry filled and the delectable Apple Filling Churro. We can’t pick one as they were all bursting with amazing flavours, what a perfect way to end a meal.

There is an old saying “Sharing food with another human being is an intimate act that should not be indulged in lightly.” We came, we ate, we laughed, a lot…..until next time ladies.  Thank you El Mariachi for the amazing experience and most importantly the service – we are already planning our next get together!
