Hi all, Ridhi checking in.
Last week, I had a playdate with my girlfriend and her daughter in Oakville. Now that we are both moms, we take any opportunity we can to get out and enjoy adult company and conversation over a nice meal. She told me about this place, Maro’s. She said I would not be disappointed and boy, she was right!
Maro’s is a small mom and pop restaurant with home style middle eastern cuisine with a twist!
As soon as you walk in, it has a very friendly and “home-ish” vibe with cute paintings on the wall and a kitchen with an open concept.
We were greeted by Maro (hence the restaurant name) himself! His vibrant and passionate personality are reflected in all his dishes. He offered to prepare us a sampler of some of his favourite items off the menu.
Contents: Hummus, Chopped Kale, Tomato, White Onion, Cucumber, Peppers, topped with Fried Cauliflower
Filling: 5 out of 5
Tasty: 6 out of 5 (yes its possible)
Comments: Every part of this dish was mouth watering. I’m not a big fan of cauliflower but this was heaven in your mouth. It was lightly deep fried and topped with a vinaigrette dressing. This dish is vegan friendly and delicious to the last bite! I give this dish 5 frequent flyer foodie points!
Middle Eastern BowlContents: 5 different dips served with pita’s. A combination of Homemade Hummus, Middle Eastern style Eggplant Salsa, Baba Ghanoush, Middle Eastern Tahini Marinara and Muhammara
Tasty: yes, I’m going with a 6 out of 5 again!
Comments: My favourite dish is the closest in the picture above which was Eli’s Eggplant (Arabic Moussaka) which is typically not served on this plate. We didn’t know it existed, it was recommended to us by one of the staff. I give this dish 5 frequent flyer foodie points!
Here Comes the Bride (cute name eh?)
Contents: Sauteed Onion and Peppers with Fish filet marinated in Middle Eastern Spices on a Bed of Homemade Middle Eastern Tahini Marinara or Baba Ghanoush covered with roasted Almonds and Pine Nuts.
Filling: 4 out of 5
Tasty: 5 out of 5
Comments: The fish melted in my mouth. Need I say more? What made this dish was the bed of tahini it was served on. This dish was so rich in flavour and the fish was cooked to perfection with the right amount of batter on the fish. I give this dish 5 frequent flyer foodie points!
Lunch in Beirut
Contents: Sauteed Onion and Peppers with Beef or Chicken Marinated in
Middle Eastern Spices on a bed of Homemade Hummus. Served
with Pita Bread and a Beet Salad.
Filling: 5 out of 5
Tasty: 4 out of 5
Comments: Delish! We chose the chicken option and it was perfectly cooked. There was so much flavour on this plate. It came with a pita but it was so filling you really didnt need anything else. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the cold beet and cucumber with warm chicken. Other than that, this dish was fantastic! I give this dish 4 frequent flyer foodie points!
Can we take a minute to appreciate his presentation? Look at that! No filter needed, literally. Maro knows how to style every dish to perfection. Each item on the menu had a creative serving plate which I loved. So picturesque!
Although I’m sure dessert would have been phenomenal, we opted out as we were stuffed but did order their signature Turkish Tea! It was served with sugar cubes. I have no idea why I so easily put 2 cubes of sugar in my tea since I never do but the presentation was too good I had to!
Overall, we had an amazing experience. Everything from the atmosphere, the food, the presentation, and the cute patio was fantastic. We were able to get some patio time at Maro’s while the weather held up (shout out to my friend beautycubed for recommending this place. Maro’s. we will be back! (PS- check out beautycubed)!
