Annual Staycation at the White Oaks

The White Oaks Resort and Spa

A few years ago, my husband and I wanted to get away for the last weekend of the summer but we had a few restrictions.  We couldnt be gone for too long as we had commitments on Friday and Monday (that took out flying),  we didnt want to drive too far (that took out Montreal) and we didnt want to spend too much (yup that eliminates every option).  Our friends told us about the White Oaks Resort and Spa.

After such an amazing visit, we said we were committed to coming here as our annual Staycation.   We just got back yesterday and had a blast, of course its always a bit different when travelling with a baby but I feel refreshed.

The Grounds:

I love greenery, and taking walks (trying to get my daily 10K steps in) in the backyard patio. The  outside garden is perfect for a stroll with the family right before sunset!IMG_4062

Beebs loved going for a walk in their garden.

It just rained and there were tons of mosquitoes so unfortunately we couldnt stay for as long as we wanted.  Before a packed day, we did manage to get some patio time right beside thier indoor pool.

I feel like this is “our spot”.  While our baby napped in her stroller, we got about 30-40 minutes of some good reading in (with a newborn, a 40 minute nap is a huge deal)!

Another reason why we love staying at The White Oaks is because its walking distance from The Outlet Collection in Niagara!

We have a tradition, we enter through the Eatery, grab some Ice Cream from Rocky Mountain, and then make our way to the shops.

For us females, they have some of the top brands like Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Saks Fifth Avenue.  We only had a few hours so I spent majority of my time in these stores and felt kind of bad for my husband who patiently waited but then the outlets closed at 6pm!

We usually go swimming after shopping but with a baby, we were pretty exhausted and opted out.  On that note, each year we dine at LIV, which is The White Oaks’ fine dining restaurant but with the new addition, we went to Play which is their restaurant/bar option.

Feta Bruschetta Perfecta
Contents:
baked calabrese loaf brushed with garlic butter and topped with fresh tomato, onion, basil, feta cheese and balsamic drizzle
Price: $15.25
Filling: appetizer
Tasty: 5 out of 5
Comments: this was perfection! The balsamic glaze made this dish.  My recommendation, ask for extra glaze!

Zhilly Philly
Contents: chopped steak, sautéed onion and peppers, herbed vinaigrette, provolone cheese, and horseradish mayo on a grilled ciabatta bun
Price: $16.50
Filling: 5 our of 5
Tasty: 3.5 out of 5
Comments: the horseradish mayo was amazing and the ciabatta bun was an essential part of the sandwich but something was missing from it as a whole. Nonetheless it was a good meal.

El Niño Pulled Chicken
Contents: two warmed flour tortillas with marinated shredded chicken breast, salsa verde, avocado salsa, lettuce, cilantro, sour cream, shredded cheese. served with a side of black bean and roasted corn salad
Price: $15.50
Filling: 4 out of 5
Tasty: 3 out of 5
Comments: The dish was very visually appealing but the shredded chicken did not have much flavour.  The side bean salad was fantastic i could have gone for seconds.

The next morning, we got a quick workout in at The Club and then got ready for checkout.  Overall, we had a fantastic stay.

My Final Thoughts:
The service was on point, the rooms were were maintained, the facilities were all close by.  Next year on our annual staycation, we plan on taking turns to get a massage, taking a splash in their pool and hopefully sitting outside on their patio long enough to enjoy a drink or two!  Until next time White Oaks, we look forward to our annual stay!
